Have you ever had a conversation with someone you just met and felt like an instant connection was made because you had so much in common? Have you ever heard a song playing that seemed to speak to your life, your situation, or your feelings at that very moment? Ever read a book that captured your attention—engaged you—and you couldn’t put it down? Well, that’s what I’m hoping to do with the series of stories contained within these pages.
Here you will find the stories of four seemingly different women, and some of the trials each one experiences. But woven into each story you will find lessons, points of view, perspectives, and ideas that will hopefully allow you to step into their shoes and see things a whole new way. Hopefully you will find that we are not as different as one may think, but we see and respond to trials differently, and therefore we can learn a lot from one another.
Each story begins and ends at a pivotal moment in that woman’s life, giving you a snapshot of where she is at a particular point in her journey. Follow along and see who she is, where she’s from, and what she’s about; then see how she handles that and other trials as they arise. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself relating to her right away. There’s truly nothing new under the sun.It is my goal to bring these women to life, and use them as examples from which other women can gain insight, inspiration, courage, wisdom, ideas, and anything else that empowers and enlightens. Women are a wellspring of life and knowledge. It’s just up to us to tap into the power we have and disburse it accordingly, and responsibly.
Please enjoy the edifying buffet I have prepared for you here, and feel free to share with me your thoughts. Thank you.TDF
From Where I Stand, It Is What It Is. It took me only a few tries to sum up what my book is really about and give it that title. That says it all. I find that people get caught up in ideology and what should be a certain way, or what other people should do, or what would have happened if.... But for the most part, people are what they are, and they make decisions based on what's best for them at the time--it's not for anyone to judge whether that's right or wrong; it is what it is. Move on accordingly. When you become an adult, you quickly realize that life is not very black and white at all; it is full of gray spots and you are the one who has to make something of it all.
I started writing these poems in 1997; the first one was "A Silly Song," which I did just for fun. I thought it was pretty good for something off the cuff, so I started writing more poems about things on my mind at the time. It occurred to me that I should use writing as therapy because at the time I wasn't willing to tell anyone some of the things I felt. If I kept it between the paper and me, there would be no judgment passed. I could speak without interruption, and that felt good. But then I would listen to people talk about their situations, and I would see talk shows on different subjects, and I realized that a lot of the problems in marriages, child rearing, or women's issues in general were really familiar to me. A friend of mine encouraged me to put my works out there. I added some new material, and the next thing you know, I'm a published author. It feels good to just tell the truth.

But Sometimes There's More is a refreshing vision quest through one young woman’s life, which captures the light-hearted, sexy, vibrant essence of its author. While it specifically tells the when, where, why and how its author came to be the woman she is, its application stretches across the globe to all women, and was designed to give valuable insight on some female behaviors as well.
You will be enlightened, amused, touched and encouraged as you become encompassed in people, places, and experiences associated with the author. Lessons learned are provided as a roadmap to help others avoid unnecessary pitfalls, discover a common thread between seemingly different people, and find joy where it was once elusive. Walk in Tonya Floyd’s shoes, see what she saw, embark on a journey through her mind; embrace her. There is definitely more here than a beautiful cover.
